Monongalia County — research proposal

Start with the clerk’s search help

The clerk’s Electronic Record Search page links to the search portal and separate instructions for index, image, and vault searches. Use the help matching your task rather than assuming a single name search covers every record.

Resolve image-loading problems

The county recommends a current browser and patience while images load on slower connections. It also notes that browser add-ons can interfere with images. If the index result appears but the document does not, try another current browser and the county’s image-search help before concluding that the record is unavailable.

Build a reproducible search

Keep the owner-name variation, period searched, document number, and book-and-page reference. Compare the result’s property description with the property you are researching. A matching surname alone is not enough to identify the correct document.

Access and copies

This help page does not establish a complete coverage range or current copy price. Check the portal’s access instructions or ask the clerk at 304-291-7230 about account requirements, older indexes, and certification. Do not assume that finding an index entry means a downloadable image or certified copy is available.
