Check coverage before registering
Berkeley’s official page lists online deeds from 1945, deeds of trust from 1918, liens and judgments from 1998, and releases from 1992, each through the present. These are the county’s published ranges, not a guarantee that every instrument has an accessible image.
Registration and published charges
The page lists a $15 monthly user fee and a record-access charge of $1.50 for the first two pages, then $1 for each additional page. Register by submitting the linked Online Users Agreement. The county says access should be granted within 24 hours during the regular business week, excluding weekends and holidays.
Accounts are intended for regular use. For copies, the county directs visitors to call the clerk at 304-264-1927. Confirm current charges, delivery options, and certification before requesting or paying.
Choose an efficient route
If you need one known deed, call about a copy before opening a recurring account. For an older instrument, compare its type and date against the published coverage and ask how to search the earlier index. Save the identifying reference for each promising result.
Keep maps separate
The official county page also links to Tax Maps. A map can help locate a parcel; use the recorded instrument for its legal description and ask the appropriate office about discrepancies.
